Who we are

Arken Digital ("we", "us", "our") is an SEO agency for local service businesses, based in Bristol. This policy explains what personal information we collect when you use this website or get in touch, how we use it, and the rights you have over it.

For anything to do with your data, or this policy, you can reach us at:

We are the data controller for the information described below.

The information we collect

We only collect what we need. Depending on how you use the site, that can include:

  • Contact and enquiry details. When you fill in our contact form or request a website review, we collect your name, email address, and anything else you choose to tell us, such as your company name, website, and message.
  • Newsletter sign-ups. If you subscribe, we store the email address you give us.
  • Usage and device data. Like most websites, our servers and analytics tools record basic technical information such as your approximate location, browser and device type, the pages you visit, and how you arrived. Some of this is collected through cookies and similar technologies.

We do not knowingly collect information from anyone under 16, and we do not collect special category data (such as health or ethnicity) through this website.

How we use your information, and why we are allowed to

Under UK data protection law we need a lawful basis for using your information. Ours are:

  • To reply to you and provide our services. When you contact us or become a client, we use your details to respond, prepare proposals, and carry out the work. Lawful basis: performing a contract, or taking steps to enter into one.
  • To send you our newsletter. Only if you have asked us to. Lawful basis: your consent, which you can withdraw at any time.
  • To run and improve the website. We use analytics to understand what is useful and to keep the site secure and working. Lawful basis: our legitimate interest in running a functional, secure website, balanced against your privacy.
  • To meet our legal obligations. For example, keeping records for tax and accounting. Lawful basis: legal obligation.

Cookies and analytics

We use a small number of cookies and similar technologies to make the site work and to understand how it is used. Non-essential cookies, such as analytics, are only set with your agreement. You can find the detail, and change your choice at any time, in our Cookie Policy.

Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with anyone for their own marketing. We do use a small number of trusted service providers who process data on our behalf, such as our website host, email and newsletter tools, and analytics provider. They may only use your information to provide their service to us, under contract.

We may also disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect our rights, property, or safety.

Where your data is held

Some of our service providers are based outside the UK. Where personal information is transferred internationally, we take steps to make sure it is protected to a standard equivalent to UK law, for example through approved contractual safeguards.

How long we keep it

We keep your information only for as long as we need it. Enquiries that do not become work are kept for a reasonable period in case you get back in touch, then deleted. Client records are kept for the length of our relationship and for as long as we are legally required to afterwards. Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have the right to:

  • ask for a copy of the personal information we hold about you;
  • ask us to correct anything that is wrong;
  • ask us to delete your information, or to restrict how we use it;
  • object to us using your information, including for direct marketing;
  • ask us to transfer your information to another provider;
  • withdraw your consent at any time, where we relied on it.

To exercise any of these, just email hello@arken.digital. We will not charge you, and we will respond within the time the law allows.

Keeping your data safe

We use appropriate technical and organisational measures to protect your information against loss, misuse, and unauthorised access. No website can be completely secure, but we take reasonable steps to reduce the risk.

Complaints

We would always rather hear from you first, so please contact us if you have a concern. You also have the right to complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO), the UK regulator for data protection, at ico.org.uk.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the date at the top of this page. If the change is significant, we will make that clear.
